As a Sydneysider foodie, I’m sure you would be familiar with Gumshara Ramen @ Chinatown and their famous pork bone broth that is packed with fat and collagen - but have you noticed there’s an item called “Special Rice” on their menu? That actually caught my attention so I decided to try that out. For the full review make sure you check out my YouTube vlog below!

Usually when I go to Gumshara Ramen, I would order one of their famous ramen, but since I was on a budget that day so I decided to order something different - hence the “Special Rice” for only A$10.5! And man, that didn’t disappoint me at all. The rice came with a small bowl of pork bone broth that they would use in the ramen as well.

The “Special Rice” that costs A$10.5, and as you can see the real item definitely looks as good as in that photo.

Before we start eating, let’s check the size of the bowl - it’s huge and the entire bowl is filled with rice and also the other ingredients! It is a bargain when this big bowl of rice would only cost you A$10.5.

Let’s get started now! First thing that I noticed in the bowl was the Japanese style soft boiled egg - as you can see the egg yolk still looks really runny! It’s perfect to mix the egg yolk with rice.

Apart from that you would also find Japanese picked vegetables, seaweed and spring onions on the side, all of these just give the rice a very unique combination of flavours - crunchiness and meatiness, and savouriness and sourness. I noticed that these ingredients could be the leftovers from making the ramen, but it certainly is a good way to combine all these food items together and give them a new life.

Overall it was a very filling meal and it was certainly value for money. If you didn’t bring enough cash to get ramen at Gumshara, this would be your alternative option for sure!
